Y, sin embargo, cada tanto despiertan algunos que, contemplando la grandeza del pasado, se sienten tan animados que la vida humana se les presenta como algo maravilloso y el fruto más bello de esa planta amarga les parece ser la conciencia de que otros han transitado la vida con orgullo y furor, otros con profundidad en sus sentidos y otros con respeto y veneración ante las tradiciones, dejando todos la misma enseñanza de que vive mejor aquel que desdeña la existencia.
Es entonces que se presencia el repugnante espectáculo de una ciega voracidad recolectora, de una infatigable recopilación de todo los vestigios del pasado. El hombre se envuelve de un perfume putrefacto e incluso llega a aplacar sus dones superiores y sus aspiraciones más nobles a causa de su manía anticuaria, su insaciable curiosidad, su verdadera avidez de lo antiguo y su mezquindad.
