Transplantation of fetal liver cells and thymocytes appears to be more effective than fetal liver cells alone in rodents; controlled trials in large animals and man are needed. Recent studies in dogs support that it is possible to achieve long-term survival and immune reconstitution following transplantation of a single, DLA matched fetal liver. Based on these data it may be possible to undertake comparable transplants in man. References 1. Keleman E, Calvo W, Fliedner TM: Atlas of Human Hematopoietic Development.

Non-recognizable progenitors Although the outstanding significance of different uncommitted and committed stem cells is obvious, we did not deal with this subject in this morphokinetic presentation. Nevertheless, liver cells are 2 to 5 fold enriched for these progenitors as compared with bone marrow [12]. Pluripotent haemopoietic stem cells (CFU-GEMM) in the human foetal liver were found around wk 12, about 2-3 wks before their demonstrability in the marrow [2]. Liver dyserythropoiesis monitoring intrauterine stress During the last 15 years we investigated more than 500 embryos/foetuses.
