In November the army practiced unit maneuvers, marching, and antitank defense techniques. On November 24, 1941, about a month after forming, units of the army left for the front. Although one division had four months' training, two divisions had less than two months'. The high command ordered that three divisions—the 322nd, the 323rd, and 330th —be given priority in preparation for combat. The 322nd went to the 50th Army at Kaluga. The 329th went to the 26th Army at Volkhov. The rest of the divisions remained with the 10th Army except the 330th, which later served with the 49th Army.
33 The Russians adopted the pragmatic approach of considering a recovered wounded man as an asset. Several prisoners reported that badly wounded men were instructors in the training schools.
