This chapter serves as a sort of preface to an unusual treatment of the plagues and Israel's deliverance from the hands of Pharaoh. The author draws various particular lessons from the exodus experience of Israel. Thus the Lord, for all the overwhelming divine power, governs with restraint, to teach the people that "the just must be kind"; and, in turn, they can hope for remission of their sins (12:18-19). In view of the previous trends within Wisdom literature, the description of Wisdom's activity in the salvation history (Wisdom of Solomon 11-19) is quite surprising.

A lengthy description of Lady Wisdom follows. She is always spoken about in the third person, in contrast to Proverbs and Ben Sira where Wisdom herself utters her speeches.
