This quantity comprises the displays of the central audio system on the NATO complex research Institute held at Porto Portese, Italy,23 August - 2 September, 1982. This assembly used to be the 3rd in a sequence dedicated to the molecular biology of crops. The preliminary assembly used to be held in Strasbourg, France in 1976 (J. Weil and L. Bogorad, organizers), and the second one in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1979 (C. Leaver, organizer). As in those earlier conferences, we've tried to hide the most important subject matters of plant molecular biology so one can advertise the combination of knowledge rising at an accelerating price from a few of the sub-disciplines of the sphere. moreover, we now have brought numerous themes, targeted to better crops, that experience now not but been approached with the instruments of molec ular biology, yet that are supposed to current new and critical points of vegetation amenable to check by way of DNA -+ RNA -+ Protein. This assembly additionally served to inaugerate the hot overseas Society for Plant Molecular Biology. the necessity for this society is, just like the NATO conferences themselves, a sign of the expansion, vitalitv and momentum of this box of research.

With regards to the issues confronted at the present time, in contemplation and in functional affairs, philosophers needs to confront the query `What is wisdom? ', and think about even if wisdom has misplaced its item. Such was once the matter positioned prior to the seminar convened by means of the Philosophical Society of Turkey at Ankara in 1989.

The 5 Symposia on Advances in Tracer technique have been held every year from 1957 to 1961. The symposia have been directed to scientists who're energetic in using tracer strategies to assist clear up their medical difficulties. The layout, an off-the-cuff one-day assembly along with approximately ten papers and shutting with a cocktail hour, fostered an energetic alternate of data between audio system and viewers.

Okamuro Department of Biology, University of California Los Angeles, California 90024 INTRODUCTION In this paper we review briefly the research which has been carried out in our lab on the organization of soybean seed protein genes. The genes which we have concentrated our efforts on encode the storage proteins glycinin and B-conglycinin, the Kunitz trypsin inhibitor, seed lectin, and an unidentified 15,500 dalton protein. We are investigating these genes in order to understand the molecular events which regulate gene expression during plant development.

7 kb S-conglycinin mRNAs are synthesized from different family members, rather than from the differential processing of a common pre-mRNA. ORGANIZATION OF SEED PROTEIN GENES 41 s Fig. 4. They were then incubated for 2 hr qt 28° followed by 72 hr at 28° (A); incubated for 2 hr at 40°, followed by 2 hr at 45°, then 70 hr at 28° (B); incubated for 2 hr at 45° followed by 72 hr at 28° (C). 7 cm. physiological tolerance to the non-permissive temperatures develops in a manner consistent again with the accumulation of hsp's at the permissive hs temperature being of prime importance to generation of "thermal tolerance" relative to subsequent growth of the soybean seedlings.
