I imagine my countertransference feelings reflected her hopelessness about the task ahead. To balance this, Loretta was able to make use of her sessions.
This revealed that Ms Smith had been raised in an interrupted fashion by her mother, grandmother, and stepfather and that she had been separated from her father at 10 months of age when he left the family. She had no further contact with him.
