REALITY: People who have served in the military may actually have one of the best backgrounds for federal jobs. First, examine the job series in the General Schedule and Wage Grade pay plans (Appendices B and D); almost every Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) has a federal civilian job series counterpart and many military skills can translate to civilian jobs.

Currently, some parts of the federal government, notably the Department of Defense, are reducing their workforces in response to shrinking budgets and changes in agency mission. S.
