BACKGROUND : AFTER THE STORM How far we can go in justifying the claim that there is a connection, albeit an oblique one, between the early drafts of An Essay Concerning Human Understanding and Locke’s concern with toleration may be disputed; it is certain that there is little explicit concern with this issue in these early drafts.
